Auto Lenders 2024 Wrap-Up: Top Selling Vehicles & Trends

With 2024 almost in the rearview mirror, we’re taking a moment to reflect on trends as well as the top makes and models that Auto Lenders shoppers brought home this year.

From SUVs to trucks, these were the vehicles that didn’t stick around in our showrooms for long.

Best-Selling Models of 2024

Gold, silver, bronze… Here are the models Auto Lenders shoppers purchased the most:

  1. Jeep Grand Cherokee: A favorite for its blend of comfort, capability, and style—perfect for family trips or weekend adventures.
  2. Honda CR-V: Practical and versatile, the roomy interior and efficient performance make it a top pick for all kinds of drivers.
  3. RAM 1500: A tough pickup truck that works hard, while also delivering comfort to make every mile more enjoyable.

Best-Selling Makes of 2024

These car brands led the way among Auto Lenders shoppers this year:

  1. Jeep: Versatile and capable, Jeep’s lineup continues to draw drivers who want adventure-ready vehicles with everyday practicality.
  2. Honda: Known for dependability and efficiency, Honda models remain a go-to for drivers seeking a car they can count on for years.
  3. Toyota: With a reputation for lasting quality and value, Toyota stayed at the top of the list for many buyers.
  4. Lexus: Lexus stood out for those looking to combine premium features with a trusted brand name.
  5. Hyundai: Hyundai’s balance of affordability and modern design made it a smart choice for a wide range of drivers.

SUVs Reign Supreme

Looking at the shift from 2023 to 2024, SUVs continued to dominate Auto Lenders showrooms, cementing their place as the top choice for most buyers.

Trucks Surge in 2024

Our buying team had to work hard to keep up with the surging demand for trucks, which had the biggest jump in sales this year (incidentally, if you have a truck and are thinking of selling or trading it, you probably want to check the value).

Shoppers Shift Away from Smaller Vehicles

Compared to 2023, sedans held fairly steady as a popular choice, though we saw a slight decline as preferences shifted toward larger vehicles. Fewer of our shoppers requested smaller options like coupes and hatchbacks, reflecting a long term trend toward spacious and versatile vehicles. Wagons, meanwhile, carved out a more niche audience— we saw less shoppers looking for wagons, but those who did were very enthusiastic about their choice (respect).

The EV Elephant in the Room

2024 was not, it turns out, the best year for electric vehicles (EVs). Not what we would have predicted back in 2023, but the wave of enthusiasm for EVs receded this year as more and more shoppers opted for hybrids and traditional gas vehicles. Time will tell if it’s just a reaction to the fall of gas prices this year (down 8.4% on average), or a more long term trend.
